The Coalition's purpose is to promote and deliver high quality financial education to County residents of all ages, communities and ethnic groups. Our goal is to provide the necessary tools for making informed decisions about saving, spending, borrowing and managing credit.

Financial literacy affects our ability to lead productive and fulfilling lives, and to ensure that our money works for us, instead of working for our money. In 2004, 7,410 eviction writs were issued in Montgomery County and nearly 1,000 households received financial assistance to prevent eviction.

History:

The Montgomery County Coalition for Financial Literacy (MCCFL) was formed January 2006 consisting of volunteers from the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection, Housing Opportunities Commission, Department of Health and Human Services, Consumer Affair office and professionals from the financial industry and private accounting firms.

Mission:

To further educate Montgomery County residents in budgeting, banking, borrowing, maintenance of credit, spending, saving and investing to help them make sound judgments in the areas of finance.
